the future of sailing starts here

Our Junior Sailing program provides youth with a positive, engaging introduction to sailing while emphasizing safety, teamwork, and confidence on the water. Sailors learn through guided instruction, on-the-water practice, and age-appropriate activities designed to make learning fun.

Program Overview

Participants will learn the fundamentals of sailing through a mix of instruction, practice, and games. Instruction covers basic water safety, parts of the boat, points of sail, sail trim, steering, tacking and jibing, launching and docking, and working as a team aboard a small sailboat. As sailors progress, they will develop improved boat handling skills, increased confidence, and a stronger understanding of wind, weather, and sailing strategy.

Junior sailors will sail club-provided dinghies that are well-suited for learning and skill development. Sailors are required to bring a properly fitted, Coast Guard–approved life jacket, along with closed-toe shoes, sun protection, and a water bottle. Additional recommendations and a full packing list will be provided prior to the start of each session.

daily schedule

Each day of Junior Sailing typically includes a morning check-in, an on-shore lesson or briefing, time rigging boats, and supervised sailing on the water. Breaks are built into the schedule, and instruction concludes with boat de-rigging and a review of the day’s lessons. Activities are designed to keep sailors engaged while reinforcing skills in a structured but fun environment.
