Our Club
The Susquehanna Yacht Club (SYC), located in Wrightsville, Pennsylvania, was founded in 1949. Situated on Lake Clarke along the Susquehanna River, it has become a prominent recreational boating and sailing hub in central Pennsylvania.
Early Years and Development
Established in the post-World War II era, SYC was envisioned as a community space for boating enthusiasts. Over the decades, it has grown into a vibrant club offering a range of activities, including sailing, power boating, water skiing, tubing, and swimming. The club also hosts social events throughout the year, fostering a strong sense of community among its members.
Sailing and Racing Heritage
SYC boasts a rich sailing tradition, particularly with its Lightning Fleet 253, which has been active since 1954. The fleet races on Lake Clarke every Wednesday evening and during special weekend regattas from mid-May to October. Additionally, the club is home to Flying Scot Fleet 81, catering to both racers and casual sailors. Small boat racing occurs on Friday nights with many Laser and Sunfish sailors showcasing their racing skills.
Community Engagement and Education
The club is committed to promoting boating education and safety. In partnership with the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Station Long Level, SYC offers a "Learn to Sail" course, providing both classroom instruction and on-the-water experience. Participants who complete the course receive a Safe Boating Certificate from the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary . SYC also offers a youth sailing program and a learn to crew program.
Facilities and Membership
SYC provides a variety of amenities, including a marina with moorings accommodating recreational boating. The club offers both Regular and Social Memberships, welcoming individuals and families interested in enjoying the water and participating in club activities. Limited spaces are available for campers during the boating season, as well as transient camper spots for families to spend the weekend on the water. Members can rent the clubhouse and pavilion, attend parties and picnics, play on the children's playground and sandy beach, and light the riverside bonfire for evening fun!
