Flying Scot Fleet 81

The Flying Scot Fleet 81 at Susquehanna Yacht Club is a welcoming and active sailing community that embraces both competitive racing and casual sailing on Lake Clarke. As part of the Flying Scot Sailing Association (FSSA), Fleet 81 offers a supportive environment for sailors of all skill levels to enjoy the 19-foot Flying Scot.

The Flying Scot is a versatile and stable one-design sloop, ideal for both racing and leisurely sailing. Its design makes it particularly suitable for family outings, day sailing, and competitive events. The boat's simplicity and stability allow sailors to focus on technique and enjoyment without being overwhelmed by complex rigging.

Fleet 81 is an integral part of the SYC sailing community, participating in weekly races and special regattas. The fleet's involvement extends beyond regular racing. Fleet 81 skippers have volunteered their time and boats to introduce newcomers to sailing. A notable event involved Fleet 81 members providing sailing instruction to Boy Scouts preparing for a sailing adventure in the U.S. Virgin Islands, ensuring they gained essential skills and confidence before their trip.

Lightning Fleet 253

Lightning Fleet 253 at Susquehanna Yacht Club is a vibrant and competitive sailing community that has been a cornerstone of the club's racing culture for decades.

In 2019, Fleet 253 was honored with the prestigious Steketee Trophy, awarded annually to the North American Lightning fleet that has made outstanding contributions to the sport. This recognition was largely due to the fleet's successful hosting of the 2019 Atlantic Coast Championship, which attracted 29 boats and featured a diverse group of participants, including 14 first-time ACC sailors and six under-30 skippers. The regatta's success highlighted the fleet's commitment to fostering growth and inclusivity within the Lightning class.

Fleet 253 races every Wednesday evening from mid-May through October on Lake Clarke, offering both seasoned sailors and newcomers a chance to engage in friendly yet competitive racing. The fleet also organizes special weekend regattas, further enriching the sailing experience at SYC. Whether you're a seasoned racer or a newcomer eager to learn, Fleet 253 provides a welcoming environment to develop your skills and enjoy the camaraderie of the sailing community.

The Sunfish Sailors Users Group at Susquehanna Yacht Club (SYC) is an inclusive community dedicated to enjoying the simplicity and fun of sailing Sunfish dinghies on Lake Clarke. Open to SYC members for a small additional fee, this group offers a relaxed yet engaging environment for both beginners and experienced sailors.

Members can utilize SYC’s fleet of Sunfish, stored conveniently on dollies right in front of the club. All necessary gear is typically stored on the boats themselves.
